Southgate set to complete by Autumn 2010

Work on the Southgate complex is at an advanced stage of construction and a number of pre-lets to major companies have been agreed.

The news comes after Bradford Council agreed a commercial loan of £6m to Northern Irish construction company McAleer and Rushe to enable construction work on the landmark scheme to be completed.

The £45m mixed-use building, which could create or safeguard 1,000 jobs in the city centre, will be the new head office for Provident Financial and will also include a 200-bed hotel operated by the Jurys Inn chain.

Mike Bell, the Council’s Assistant Director of asset management, said: “The commercial loan will allow them to continue the good progress they have made on site and complete a scheme that will provide a major boost to the city and district with offices that will become the new home of Provident Financial and a 200-bed Jurys Inn hotel.”

Stephen Davey, of McAleer & Rushe, said: “We are extremely pleased that the development funding has been secured, thus allowing the scheme to progress.

“We have remained positive that this would be the case and have used our own resources to keep the construction programme on target in the meantime, necessary in order to meet our autumn 2010 delivery date.”

Alex Munro, of property consultants Knight Frank and advisers to McAleer and Rushe, said: “This is tremendous news, a great example of the private and public sectors working together.”
