The plans to build New Victoria Place, on the site of Bradford’s former Odeon cinema, have cleared a major hurdle after planning permission was granted by Bradford Council.
The Government Office has also confirmed that the Secretary of State will not intervene in the decision to grant New Victoria Place’s planning application.
Full planning permission is set to be issued for the £40 million mixed-use development once the conditions laid out by the Council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee in their original ruling have been met.
Martin Mellor, Director of Langtree Artisan, comments: “This is a landmark decision and the right decision to provide the catalyst for the regeneration of Bradford.
“The project team has worked hard to create a viable scheme that is deliverable, iconic and beneficial to all Bradfordians. We will now work on the detailed designs and engage with those who have already expressed an interest in being a part of New Victoria Place.
“We’re confident that we can deliver a scheme that local people will ultimately be proud of. The architecture is underpinned by sustainable principles and we’re committed to delivering an inspiring and innovative new scheme that represents Bradford’s future whilst respecting its past.”
The vision, created by architect Carey Jones, will deliver work and leisure space for Bradford residents and visitors, including prime Grade A office space combined with vibrant city centre accommodation, a 98-bed hotel, bars, cafes and community leisure facilities all centred around vibrant public realm.
