ProLogis starts work on site

Construction work has begun to create a multi-million pound distribution centre for Marks & Spencer in Bradford.

ProLogis Developments, a leading provider of distribution facilities, has started work on its largest-ever European logistics centre, which is expected to create many new jobs when it opens next year.

A 1.1 million sq ft building is being developed for Marks & Spencer as part of ProLogis Park Bradford.  The 90-acre business park, which is being built on the site of the former West Bowling Golf Club, off Rooley Lane, will also include  a 250,000 sq ft distribution facility and business units suitable for SMEs and national companies. It is expected that the development will eventually create around 3,000 jobs overall within the region.

Councillor Adrian Naylor, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration and Economy, said: “The ProLogis scheme is pivotal to the district-wide regeneration, and it is great news that work is moving forward on site. Despite the economic climate, Marks & Spencer is committed to the city which demonstrates that Bradford is a big part of its future.

ProLogis expects to complete work on the building, which will also house office space, training rooms, onsite catering and staff facilities, in spring next year.

Marks & Spencer then plans to open its new distribution centre by late 2010.
