Chairman proud of regeneration work

Following its last board meeting, Bradford Centre Regeneration (BCR) confirmed that after six years of successfully putting in place a clear strategy of attracting private sector investment, the time is right to move to the next phase of delivery for the regeneration of the city.

The delivery of BCR’s key regeneration projects will be transferred to Bradford Metropolitan District Council from 1 January 2010 and the company will aim to cease operation with effect from 31 March 2010.

Since 2003, BCR partners have contributed a total of £36m towards enabling regeneration in the city centre, which has facilitated and resulted in; £180m private sector investment in property development; £340m private sector commercial property transactions; £484m of private sector property development has commenced and schemes totalling a further £711m of investment have secured planning permission.

Michael Ziff, Chairman of BCR, commented: “I am immensely proud of what BCR has been able to achieve during probably the most challenging economic times that any of us can remember. Bradford is a city that is now rightly seen as a real opportunity by both UK and international investors and is better able to compete for that investment.

He continued to say: “However, this is only the beginning. The regeneration work must continue and we are only five years into what is a 20 year journey. My main concern now is over the proper and effective closure of BCR and the transfer of activities to the Council in a manner that is as smooth as possible.”
