College Opens Doors for Sport, Engineering and Construction Students
On Saturday 20th September 2008, Gerry Sutcliffe MP, Minister for Sport, will officially open Bradford College’s new Trinity Green Campus - A £20m development housing the College’s Sport, Engineering and Construction curriculum areas. Expected to hold around 900 students at any one time, the new campus will enable the college to increase intake for Sport, Engineering and Construction courses this academic year, which have in previous years been running to full capacity.
Trinity Green will provide modern workshops; staff and student break-out areas; Wi-Fi technology; extensive learning resource areas; and student services. New sporting facilities will include a 1000m² sports hall; sports and fitness laboratories; a fitness testing suite; a dedicated sport theory room; an aerobics and dance studio complete with fully sprung wooden floor; multi-use games area; 2 basketball courts designed to Sport England standard; three 5-a-side pitches; and a full size football pitch that will be made available for community use.
The college’s new sports facilities now feature in the London Organising Committee Pre-Games Training Camp Guide for the Olympics in 2012.
Michele Sutton, Principal and Chief Executive of Bradford College comments;
‘We are absolutely delighted that the Trinity Green building is on time and on budget and will open in September for students. The facilities are second to none and in addition to them being used by Bradford College students, will also be available to communities, individuals and employers who will be able to benefit from using them.’
‘This new building will set the standard for the future in terms of the City Centre Campus and together will provide world class buildings, world class facilities and environments for the citizens of Bradford.’
Maud Marshall, Chief Executive of Bradford Centre Regeneration adds: “The official opening of the Trinity Green campus is a significant milestone in the college’s extensive £140m accommodation strategy. The college plays an integral role in the innovative £750 million Learning Quarter and Bradford’s £3bn regeneration, so this latest move is a major step forward in adding to the vibrant and thriving academic community that the city already enjoys.”
Plans for Phase 2 are now underway with an application in principle to the Learning and Skills Council for funding being recently been submitted. Phase 2 involves the creation of an iconic £120million city centre campus to be built on the site where the College’s Westbrook and Randall Well Buildings and the Alexandra car park are located. The building will be 37,500m² and the target date for completion is November 2011.
