£12million Restoration Development in Bradford Nears Completion
The impressive £12million renovation of Bradford’s distinctive Eastbrook Hall into 73 apartments by Aldersgate Estates, is nearing completion with the long-awaited removal of its scaffolding.
Eastbrook Hall, formerly the Methodist Cathedral of the North, is a symbol of the city’s ambitious £2bn renaissance. This project has been made possible through the collaboration of key public and private sector partners brought together by the Prince’s Regeneration Trust and City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council.
The project to restore the building, saw the erection of substantial scaffolding to allow the careful piece-by-piece reconstruction by specialist stonemasons after it suffered major fire damage in 1996. Removing the scaffolding is the latest in a line of developments which include the restoration of the four metre high stained glass window, the focal point of which is a blue ‘E’ and ‘H’ which stands for Eastbrook Hall, and is a pinnacle event in the careful restoration project, revealing the stunning Victorian façade once again.
Maud Marshall, Chief Executive of Bradford Centre Regeneration said, “As the ‘public face’ of the Little Germany conservation area, Eastbrook Hall is one of the key developments in the successful regeneration of Bradford city centre. With the removal of the scaffolding we can see the building restored to its former glory.”
Tony Marsh, Director of Aldersgate Estates, developers of the project said: "This latest development is a significant milestone in the restoration of one of Bradford’s most distinctive buildings, which is already proving to be a resounding success, with 15 out of the first initial phase of 27 apartments already occupied.”
The scheme is due for completion in the next couple of months.
