A record breaking response to fly the flag for Bradford design
After an unprecedented response, the Bradford District Design Awards look set to be bigger than ever at this year’s award ceremony on 2nd July at the National Media Museum.
The event has seen a 50 per cent increase in entries compared with the 2006 awards, highlighting the high calibre of design in the Bradford District.
Now in their fifth year the awards, in association with Yorkshire’s Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), celebrate design excellence across key property sectors.. This year’s categories include Building of the Year, Public Realm, Health Building, Education Building, Community Building, Interior Design, Residential Conversion & New Build, Commercial Building and Public Building.
Alan Soper, Chairman of RIBA Yorkshire - Bradford Branch, which is championing the awards, said: “Bradford is well known for its stunning architecture and maintaining a high standard of design is key to developing cohesion in the city and beyond as the regeneration programme strides forward.”
The judging panel has vigorously assessed each entry and has selected 15 awards and commendations, rewarding the very best of architectural design and restoration across the district. The results will be announced at the RIBA Dinner & Award Ceremony on the amended date of July 2 , and tickets are still available.
Bradford Council’s Assistant Director for Planning, Christopher Hughes, said: “This competition has showcased excellent designs in its previous years, and I’m looking forward to this year’s winners demonstrating new architecture and design at its best.”
Claire George, Regeneration Executive at Bradford Centre Regeneration, said: “Through the regeneration programme we are committed to delivering the highest standard of design -combining Bradford’s historic architecture with new, iconic developments”
“These awards highlight exceptional design and are a great way to help showcase Bradford as a leading city for design within the property sector. That’s why we’re sponsoring them with the Council.”
